Tuesday, July 16 Gail Rice drove down from Middlebury to facilitate our first weekday workshop. Jolene and I got to take the workshop this time which is great. I have heard a lot about Annie Sloan from Brian and Gail and I was very curious to try it out and see it in action. After we did quick introductions we dove right in. I was painting a small MDF & contact paper chest that Brian had picked up at an auction. It’s small but in rough shape. Before going to the workshop I took off all the hardware. I decided to use Paris Gray for the chest and as a base coat on the drawers. My piece had a lot of damage so it needed two coats. The gray looked great but I wanted something a bit more vibrant, I asked Gail if I could paint the drawers a different color. She said I could block the drawers. I taped up and decided on my color combinations. I decided to paint one side Barcelona Orange and the other Aries, which is a yellow. I did the bottom drawers in two different blue colors. Gail recommended that I paint the lowest drawer the darker blue, which i did. I will wax the piece this Sunday and that’s that. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint can be used on just about everything, most items only need only one coat, but some items need two coats. The clear wax offers a protective seal, and the dark wax is decorative.
We are offering another Just Paint Workshop on Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 1:30 to 3:30. The cost is $25.00 to cover materials. Bring in an item to transform with chalk paint. Call 802-447-0039 to sign up.
